Jangchub, a Buddhist monk from the Avalokiteshvara Buddhist Center in Denver, will teach a meditation class Saturday at Mesa State College.
The class, titled “A Traveler’s Guide — Our Journey from Life to Life,” will explore the issue of past and future lives.
Understanding past and future lives provides the foundation for understanding the basic Buddhist view, according to Eric Reinke, the center’s education program coordinator.
The 1 1/2-hour session includes an introduction, meditation, teaching, another meditation based on the teaching and a question-and-answer period.
The Buddhist Center has eight residents who provide classes around Colorado and nearby states.
“The purpose is to benefit people whatever level of interest they have, whether to learn a little bit of Buddhist dharma or improve the quality of life,” said Eric Reinke.
Buddhist dharma refers to Buddhist teachings.
“We’re trying to make teachings accessible to as many people as we can,” Reinke said.
Interest brings classes, committed people bring regular classes, and those eventually may grow into other centers, Reinke said.
The meditation class is sponsored by the college’s International Relations Club.
The class will be held in the Campbell College Center’s Bacon room from 2-3:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted to cover travel expenses of the teacher.
