Palisade duo earns all-league basketball honors

Print Comment
GRAND JUNCTION — Throughout the recently completed girls basketball season, Bernadette Pitre and Holly Odneal established themselves as Palisade High School’s “go to” players.

A fact the Western Slope League’s coaches remembered when they met to vote on the 2007-08 campaign’s all-league team.

Both of the Bulldogs stars were chosen to the 12-member team in a recent vote by the coaches.

The honor was well deserved.

Pitre completed her high school career as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points per game. Additionally, she was one of the top rebounders among Class 4A girls statewide.

Odneal, a junior, blossomed in her second season as a varsity starter. She provided additional rebounding and prowess for the Bulldogs at both ends of the floor, scoring close to 11 points a contest.

Two more Palisade starters — guards Sarah Hayes and Megan Miller — earned honorable mention.

Angie Charchalis of Moffat County and Glenwood Springs’ Sharaya Selsor were named as the league’s Co-Players of the Year. Moffat County’s Craig Mortensen was tabbed for Coach of the Year honors.

On the boys side, Palisade seniors Jose Quintana, Benedict Seebode and Hank Stewart were awarded honorable mention.

Steamboat Springs’ Michael Vandahl and Kelly Meek were selected as the WSL’s Player and Coach of the Year respectively.
