Kaselyn Butters needed just 14 minutes of play to establish herself as dangerous soccer player. Make that a very dangerous soccer player.
In that short period of time at last week’s Central-Coal Ridge High School nonleague girls soccer game at Longs Family Park, the Warriors senior netted three goals.
And appeared to be on her way to adding a fourth score a few moments later.
Instead, Butters’ 2008 season may have come to an end when she collided with a Coal Ridge defender in front of the Titans’ goal.
The result of the collision left Butters with a broken tibia and a partially fractured fibula. According to medical personnel, recovery from that type of injury can take six to 12 weeks at best.
While her soccer future remains up in the air, Butters’ skills last week earned her the Gene Taylor’s Sporting Goods Prep Athlete of the week award.
Honorees are chosen by members of the KTTM (AM 1340) Radio staff and are announced Thursday morning on the radio station’s “Time Out” program.
In addition, award winners appear in Friday’s edition of the Free Press throughout the high school sports season and have their photo appear at the sporting goods store’s “Wall of Fame.”
