The Mientka-Alderdice Consort will be celebrating early when they give their Celtic concert Thursday night in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
You can expect to hear slow, soulful Irish melodies as well as fast fiddle tunes.
The consort is comprised of pianist Kathryn Mientka, cellist Tyme Mientka and percussionist David Alderdice.
So where’s the fiddle?
The music is “transcribed to the cello,” Tyme Mientka said. “Most of the music was conceived for the Irish fiddle. I just bring it in the cello range.”
Mientka calls their music a “kind of a fusion of our classical influences and authentic traditional fiddle styles.”
The Mientka-Alderdice Consort performs a variety of classical and Celtic music for free every Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel in the 743 Club. Thursday’s concert will be all Celtic in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.
Some of the music the group performs goes back 1,000 years, Mientka said.
Kathryn and Tyme Mientka have performed internationally to critical acclaim as the classical Mientka duo. They’ve also been featured nationally on television and radio. The Mientkas direct the Western Slope Chamber Music Series.
Drummer David Alderdice has performed at the Kennedy Center, the Romanian Embassy and the Blues Alley Jazz Club.
The trio is also three-quarters of the group Feast, an instrumental Celtic band that performs for the Western Slope Chamber Music Series and in other venues around Colorado.
The 743 Club at the DoubleTree is an upscale lounge with a full menu and a great wine list, Mientka said.
Mientka said he may throw out a few Irish toasts Thursday.
“The Irish are kind of famous for their humor,” Mientka said. “They’re whole books of Irish wisdom.”
