It’s official. Matt Lindholm resigned his position as head coach of the Central High School girls basketball team.
According to media reports from various local television and radio stations, Lindholm submitted his immediate resignation last weekend to Central Principal Jody Frost.
Reports of the resignation were confirmed in an KTTM Radio interview with Mesa County School District 51 Athletic Director Steve Phillips late Tuesday afternoon.
A press release on Lindholm’s resignation was faxed to local news organizations Tuesday. A copy of the school’s press release was not received by the Free Press as of Wednesday afternoon. Calls to the high school were not returned.
According to news reports, Central High School Athletic Director Paul Cain will step in as interim head coach for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.
Cain played at Mesa State College and is a member of the school’s athletic Hall of Honor.
The Warriors girls are in first place in the Southwestern League with a unbeaten 7-0 record (16-3 overall).
