The Central High School Speech and Debate Team made an unprecedented run through the Western Slope invitational speech tournaments during the regular season, said sponsor Tony Bichler.

The team attended four major events and won the first-place team sweepstakes award at all of them.

“Never, in the history of the team, has this occurred,” Bichler said. “But in this challenging season, the team has come out on top of all of the events they have been eligible to win.

“This incredible run culminated in the first-place finish at this past weekend’s Montrose Rendezvous.”

Next on the schedule are the qualifying and championship tournaments at state and national. The individual results at the Montrose turnament are below:

Max Bohning, first place foreign extemporaneous speaking; Garrett Jensen, third place national extemporaneous speaking; Rachael Bohning, fifth place national extemporaneous speaking; Brian Conklin and Macy Sprague, second place public forum debate; Max Bohning and Matt Martinez; fourth place public forum debate; Aaron Whitrock and Robert Marshall, second place cross-examination debate; Naomi Viera and Britny Humphreys, fourth place cross-examination debate; Brianna Whitrock, fourth place interpretation of humor; Ana Orozco, sixth place original oratory.

Brianna Whitrock, second place congress speaker, house I; Matt Martinez, second place congress speaker, house II; Max Bohning, second place congress speaker, house III; Macy Sprague, second place congress speaker, house IV; Conor Felletter, first place congress speaker, house V; and Brian Conklin and Conner Wilson, presiding officers.
