Persian rugs, Russian impressionist paintings and several kinds of fine art by both local and national artists will be featured tonight at the Art Center’s 10th annual fine art auction.

“We have all the best in town,” said executive director Cheryl McNab. “It’s our biggest fundraiser. We depend on it for our educational programs and our exhibits.”

The silent auction includes items such as a dinner with limousine service at the Rendez-Vous restaurant, a night at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs and a lapis necklace worth $450 from Thomas Hunn Jewelers.

“Thomas Hunn gave us a beautiful necklace. That was a nice gift,” McNab said.

Nationally known landscape artist Buffalo Kaplinski will be unveiling his new painting, titled “Mt. Wilson from the Last Dollar Road.” He’ll also have three other pieces in the show.

Kaplinski will also be there signing his book “Passionate Landscape: The Painting Journeys of Buffalo Kaplinski.”

“He’s painted plein air all over the world,” McNab said.

Art Center founder Ruth Moss recently gifted the Art Center with 36 of her works, three of which will be offered in the live auction.

“These are very fine. We’ve picked three of her best for the auction,” McNab said.

Mac McCarthy will be taking over the job of auctioneer this year, replacing Mike Hurshman who started the auction 10 years ago with his wife, Kathy.

There are 118 pieces in this year’s auction.
