Investigators looking into Paige Birgfelds disappearance want to talk to any drivers detoured because of a traffic accident June 28 the same time the missing mother was last heard from.
The Mesa County Sheriffs Office said in a news release on Tuesday it was looking for anyone diverted between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., following an accident at 23 and G roads, June 28.
The intersection where the accident occurred is about one half-mile south of the parking lot at 727 23 Road where Birgfelds Ford Focus was found burned on July 1.
Family and friends have said Birgfeld was last heard from via her cellular phone, near her north Grand Junction home, around 9 or 10 p.m. June 28.
Anyone who was detoured is asked to call sheriffs investigator Peter Burg at 244-3263.
According to a Grand Junction police accident report, the two-vehicle accident happened at 6:36 p.m. The wreck hospitalized 81-year-old Madelon Monson of Fruita with several injuries.
The report isnt clear about how long the intersection was closed as a result.
Birgfeld, 34, a mother of three children, hasnt been seen or heard from in nearly three weeks.
Foul play is suspected in her disappearance.
Volunteers who combed over sections of the Grand Valley this past weekend were at it again on Tuesday. Connie Flukey, with the Jennifer and Abby Foundation, said about 50 volunteers participated in an effort Tuesday that took teams going every which direction, looking at side roads off U.S. Highway 50 near Whitewater.
Her search is now based out of the Lands End Fire Department.
When I feel this areas 100 percent covered, well move out of here, Flukey said.
If shes out here, we will find her.
To the north on Tuesday, sheriffs investigations were still miffed about a report of a possible body part floating in the Grand Valley Canal, near the canals intersection with 26 and F 1/2 Roads.
A woman feeding ducks in the area reported around 3 p.m. Monday a possible sighting, sheriffs spokeswoman Norma Mestas said.
She made the assumption it might have been a torso, Mestas said.
Nothing was found.
Two traps along the canal were set up downstream of the reported sighting, Mestas said.
