A Colorado Springs man faces 33 felony charges — including 12 counts of attempted first-degree murder — in last week’s crash and shooting on Glade Park.

Andrew Ryan Young, 28, was formally charged by the district attorney’s office Tuesday with 12 counts of attempted first-degree murder, 10 counts of first-degree assault, aggravated motor vehicle theft, two counts of attempted aggravated motor vehicle theft, four counts of criminal trespass, vehicular eluding, possession of a gram or less of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, as well as a potential sentence-enhancing special offender charge.

Public Defender David Eisner waived Young’s right to have a preliminary hearing in the next 30 days, saying his office needs time to receive and review anticipated large amounts of discovery in the case.

“It’s going to take a couple weeks for (officers) to get paperwork done on this,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney Tammy Eret.

Young’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for 3 p.m. on Jan. 5, before Chief Judge David Bottger.

He’s being held at the Mesa County jail on $800,000 bond.

Some 16 Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies, or Grand Junction police officers, are listed in Young’s complaint as witnesses in the Nov. 13 incident — Young allegedly pulled a handgun on a Grand Junction police officer during a downtown traffic stop around 6:15 a.m. before later crashing his stolen Honda Accord into three parked law enforcement vehicles on Glade Park Road.

“(Young) fired first,” Eret said.

Young was hit at least three times — no officers were injured.

Young on Tuesday wore an elbow-length cast on his left arm and his right hand also wrapped in a cast. He said nothing sitting at the defendant’s table, restrained in shackles.

According to Young’s arrest affidavit, sheriff’s investigator Beverly Jarrell overheard Young tell medical staff at St. Mary’s Hospital that he’d used methamphetamine early on the morning of Nov. 13.

Young’s former girlfriend in Boulder, Lori Dunn, told authorities that she and Young were together in Boulder two days prior to the incidents in Grand Junction. The Honda Accord driven by Young on Nov. 13, was hers.

“Young told Dunn that he would put more money in the meter ... Young left the residence and Dunn has not seen him or her car since,” the affidavit said.
